[Any Player] How To Choose A Tribe

Choosing a Tribe is the most important decision a new player can make when they start to play Travian, simply put there is nothing worse for your chances than choosing the wrong tribe. Making a poor decision here and a new player may find themselves outclassed or unable to play to the best of their abilities. Anyway, I thought I'd put together a list of the things you should know about all the tribes before deciding which one to play as.

Tuetons:

The Tueton tribe is best played if you have the ability to be extremely active (I'd say atleast 8 hours a day on a normal server) and are looking to be very aggressive from the onset. To play this tribe successfully as a new player is hard and I'd only suggest it if you have got the time. You must be aggressive and never leave your troops at home if you want to succeed, you will most likely find yourself as the target of the other active Tuetons in the area very quickly.

Romans:

The Romans are a midway tribe, I don't believe they excel at anything during the beginning of the game and often have the most complex strategies for success, Tuetons will target them as farms from the onset and they have no large crannies or trappers to hide against like the Gauls. Offensively it takes a while to be able to research their best units and it's very expensive to do so. This is personally my favourite tribe by the time you reach the final months of the game, so I'd only suggest this tribe if you plan to stick at the game for the entire thing and you are able to accept that you will get farmed early in the game.

Gauls:

Personally I would suggest the Gauls as the tribe to start off with if you have never played the game before or if you only plan to log on for short periods once or twice a day. The advantages of playing Gauls early in the game are numerous, not only do the Gauls get to build a cranny that can hide double the resources of the other tribe's crannies but they have the ability to build a trapper which can capture some enemy troops. Once you have the production to build troops this tribe also has some of the best early game defensive troops. Also because of your trapper and high cranny trying to raid is a lot less appealing to robbers.

So my suggestion is, if you are new to the game, your best chance to survive is to play as a Gaul. I hope my advice helps you and good luck.
