Tips for people who want to join Travian Crew

Hey Guys,

Yep, you read the title right, I'm now a supporter on the international Travian domain .com as of the 30th of July and I've discovered loads of stuff. For those of you who are interested I am Supporter2 on the newly restarted speed server, so feel free to ask me any game quesions you may have.

I've decided to do a quick peice on how to make yourself attractive as potential employee for Travian as many people do have a desire to get involved but A. Don't know how or where to apply or B. Simply have no idea what it involves. The process is very simple, you submit your application at any time and then when they have a vacancy and if they like it they'll invite you for further discussions. However it's getting that application right which is the main issue for many people; writing 'hey, i wanna join crew bud' is not going to get you there.

Warning: Reading/Using this does not mean you will get a place on any crew, these are only my personal guidelines for how to get involved and this was not written on behalf of Travian Games.

Let's start with the basics and the key elements:

  1. Be Polite - This speaks for itself, someone who is polite and easygoing is always more likely to get a position than someone who is a arrogant, rude and self-centered.
  2. Be Motivated - If you want to apply to join staff you've got to know that it's something you really want and will enjoy doing, not something to pass the time during theday.
  3. Have It Proof Read - Don't submit it until you've had a friend or someone you know is suitable proof read it, they'll be able to tell you if it's appealing and makes you stand out, if your jokes are dry or if they make you seem interesting. Don't miss out this stage.
Now the next part, the essential categories that Travian ask for themselves as the bare minimum:

  1. When did you start playing, what are your current servers and nicknames and (if you have one), what's your forum account?
  2. How old are you (I think you have to be 16 for support & 18 for Multihunter)?
  3. Why do you want to do this job?
  4. Describe Yourself (What you do, what you're like)
  5. What do you expect from the current team
Now as I mentioned above those categories are the very, very minimum for what you should be writing, if you have those and you've written it well it means you'll be considered. However I have found that if you add more and show you've thought about this and have made the effort by including more information you're more likely to stand out.  I'll make a few suggestions below but the more original you make it the more you'll be able to shine:

  • Hobbies & Interests - Show you've got a character and you're not just a computer game junky (nothing wrong with that but just saying).
  • Online Times - Let them know roughly what your online times are to avoid them having to ask that later.
  • Game Experience - Although you could mention this on category 1. I would suggest making this seperate and going deeper into your experience both on Travian and, if you have any, doing something similar to being either a Supporter or MH on other games.
  • Instant Messengers/Ways To Contact - Make it as easy as possible for them to find you and it could be what seperates you from the guy that takes a week of tracking down to find. Also you'll need an IRC client or the ability to install one on your computer to become staff.
To apply (this is the link to the .com application page, check your domains forum for a link to national application page), you should follow this link and copy your application in to the box (fill in the information required as well):

Well I hope that's been useful for you and if you are interested in joining the team I hope you make the effort as so far I've found it very rewarding. If you need a proof reader then feel free to send me an email here. No promise I'll actually find the time to read it through and get back to you but I will try but send it to a friend or someone you trust as well just to be sure you do find a proof reader.

Steve
